You did not specify if the extra-terrestrial invasion was really hostile or not. Nor did you specify what their agenda would be. A 'take over' does not necessarily have to be hostile. If there are any ets close enough to this planet that they may be affected by any of our missile firing, nuclear explosions etc, they may feel that the only way to protect themselves is by putting a prompt stop to the actions of our governments. We first have to know what their intentions are.
And yes, if it was really hostile and they had a really bad agenda then yes everyone here would probably band together.
And yes, people being what they are, they who are disposed to greed would go back to it.

Tribes and Clans have always warred with each other. Despite foolish racist claims. The way to bring them together has always been an outside invader.
That is why many unscrupulous Leaders "Invent" an outside invader. Making the people think their Country or Way of Life is under attack, when it isn't. Then they can get everyone in that Country to rally around them, and help them to promote their own agendas.
I would think if prophecy is true. That our World will soon be a Battleground for humans and even spiritual, multidimensional lifeforms. Then extraterrestrials will be battling here too.

I’ve read through the many posts on this topic, a VERY good one at that. I have put quite a bit of thought into this because of its importance. And I appreciate that you shared your thoughts as well. But t makes no sense, (TO ME) because when we as a planet become one with the enemy, and then reverts to not being closer as a civilization?? I don’t know what to say… I am CERTAIN others, (YOU READING THIS) feel the same was as I do. If we cannot get our (sh*t) together, IT WILL END US!!!! It saddens me to think that an event which could lead to world peace, if only brief…, it just proves that we are uncivilized and will NEVER EVER move on and continue to search for intelligent, yet civilized worlds!!! This comment along with much more content will be added to my journal.

No because the politicians would be too busy blaming other politicians for letting it happen, and some of the world's governments would collaborate with the aliens in an attempt to gain some power. Nobody would think about organising resistance.

Only until we defeated them or they defeat us. Humans fight, there is no way around that and the way our mind works, we always put things into categories. When thinking of ourselves (Humans), there is an us and them, us being those you like or find compatible with you, them being who you don't like or aren't compatible with you.
With the alien threat, we would come up with us being humans and them being aliens, a temporary alliance with all humans would occur to defeat the aliens and protect the earth, but afterward old problems would arise again and we would revert to our former way of thinking and trying to destroy each other.

I used to think we might all group up to take on a threat such as you describe.
These days I'm not so sure we could quit bickering to get it done.
If we did defeat a threat by an alliance, I'm certain that we'd go right back at each other when it was done.

Are you serious? If the aliens didn't kill us all, (maybe they need oxygen breathing slaves?) Then the people left would say things like, "Oh, THOSE people are the reason aliens invaded in the first place."

yes, for a short period of time. It seems to me that people are only truly united under extreme circumstance (ie. 9/11) but afterwards everything would return to normal.

I don't think so.
Actually, I think we, the world, have even scared them.
I picture them on their planet shaking their heads and saying: what's up with those humans anyway?
