In the 1800's I doubt they did a lot a night after all they had to do all day, like plow the fields, cook everything from scratch, make clothes for the family, and keep up with raising several children.
On special occasions, they had party's and square dancing. I have heard...that they did such things, as sit together in the living room and Dad would read the Bible while Mom sewed, and the kids played on the floor, all in the same room....family time.

Attended community events like county fairs - barnyard dances, sat out in the porch and smoked tobacco rocking back n forth. Talked alot. Drank moonshine and barked at the moon.

1800's? Um.....nightlife?

Well, it was dark.

Seriously, I would think a lot of cmapfire traditions and sing-a-longs were probablly perpetuated in these times.
