A good, decent, honest and safe man, and a man through and through. He just seems to gravitate naturally to married women even over dating. He does befriend the husbands also but is invariably closer to the women. He is not letchy at all, never crosses boundaries and yes, he is straight.
p.s. He's 46 and never married

I don’t dismiss the "fear of commitment" theory but think it’s not that simple. I am curious why a straight and seemingly confident man even though presented with many viable opportunities is not interested in “available” women.

He is afraid of commitment, a married woman is safe, she poses no threat. He needs to feel close to women, so he gravitates to women who will not be able to have a relationship. At 46 years of age and has never been married should be enough proof that he is a confirmed bachelor.

Why are you asking this question? Does he make you feel uncomfortable? He probably does not like the pressure of dating or does not see the need to get married. As someone has already said, he finds safety in ease in a woman who expects less from him and appreciates his company.

I would say it is exciting for a guy to date a married woman for the following reasons:
(1) She belongs to another man, so there is a challenge factor. Its challenging to win over another man's wife.
(2) You know you can have a relationship with her, and not have to worry about commitments :-)

Well for one, he is unsettled, i wish i had more information, but he either is jealous and has something to prove, or the thrill of seeking married women is just something that please him, for lack of a better word. those are my two guesses, take em or leave, like i said i would need to know more about the situatation

Married women are "safe". He knows they probably don't want anything to do with him and that makes him feel more comfortable.

he probably feels they are safe friends, they are married and dont want anything from him but friendship, and he may also just feel its more comfortable or easier to be around women than men(better conversations) :-)

most of the answers you get for your question will be good ones, however they are only assumptions. To truly understand what this man is truly thinking, you would obviously have to ask him.
