I've been doing this to save on gas mileage, but is it bad on the transmission?

This will not save you any fuel. It is also bad on the transmission over time. Do not do this. Its hard on the torque converter, the planetary gears and the clutch packs, and maybe other parts. Especially if you revv the engine before putting it back into drive.

Keeping tires inflated, car well maintained, and avoid rapid acceleration will save gas.

No how do you think reaving an engine can sound so good while driving only problem is if you have a reverse manual vaule body which turn an automatic into a three speed then instead of p r n d1 2 it goes p r n 2 1 d wrost part about that is when you have a rachet shifter u can skip neutral and hit reverse which in turn you coul drop the tranny or hopefully it while stall

It does'nt hurt the tranny shifting into neutral but it will burn your clutch packs in your transmission shifting back into drive again. Doing this will NOT save you money. If you want to continue doing this, maybe you should buy a car with a manual transmission, or lay off the gas pedal.

in answer to your question no it wont hurt it but its really not necessary either ,your not going to save any gas by doing this, and sometimes it can cause the transmission to take a lower gear before shifting back to where it should be ,so i really i wouldn't recommend you do this all the time with it,it may not tear it up,but its not helping it either, there's a reason there called an automatic, and that is to put them in gear and leave them alone, good luck with it.

there's a commerce-off. moving into impartial removes engine braking from the stress practice. Any gasoline fee reductions would be used up once you may get a brake activity considering which you would be able to could use your brakes extra if the site visitors in front would not initiate shifting once you arrive. different than that, i know of no harm.

yes it can be because when youre slipping the transmission back into Drive after coasting the RPMs are at an idle(somewhat above actually), but if while putting the transmission back into Drive you apply enough throttle to rise the RPMs inconjunction to your speed ... there wont be anything to worry about.

and releasing Drive into Neutral is similar to reving the engine while in Park. There is nothing to worry about.

There is a reason its called an "Automatic Transmission". But, to answer your question, it shouldn't cause any damage, its just pointless and its not saving you on gas.

yea...stop doing that because all the money your "saving" on gas you probably going to need to replace the gears in the transmission...
