This refers to how much combustion area is displaced (capacity inside cylinder + head displacement, etc.). Basically, how much air fuel mixture can be in the motor.

if you take the heads off your car and put all the pistons down the volume in the cylinders is that number. if you have a 2.0 liter engine you would be able to fit 2 liters of soda in all four cylinders..!

thats the amount of displacement in liters. A 1.6 liter engine (1600cc) has 1.6 liters of total space for fuel inside the engine(not at the same time).

That is the size of the engine. Older engines used to be 350, 302, 400, etc. They went with the liter's to be standard with european models.

That is the total combined displacement of all the cylinders. Remember how we used to measure engines in cubic inches? Now, most are measured in liters.

If you are not sure how to compare then here is a rough equivilency chart...

5.0 liter = 302 cubic inches (the standard Ford Mustang engine)

3.6 liter = 260 cubic inches (mid size sedan engine)

7.0 liter - 440 cubic inches (large 1 Ton pickup engine)

* To all the math whiz's - please don't bash my numbers these are only rough comparisons.
