I know it said that S. Morgensen wrote it but when I looked up the name, it said that William Goldman IS S. Morgensen, but how is that possible when he said his father read him the story aloud when he was 10?

William Goldman wrote the book. His claim about his father reading it to him is part of the story.

S. Morgensen did not write it in English. He wrote it in Florinese, a language that Goldman's father was familiar with. Goldman's search for an English copy of The Princess Bride was detailed in his abridged version.

What became the movie was that abridged version. He found out when he had the complete book in his hands that his father had skipped whole chapters of history and political diatribes that Morgenstern had written and just kept to the "good parts." His abridged version is limited mostly to the good parts with just brief summaries of what he took out.
It's one of those cases of a book being improved by an editor after the author's death.

Yes, S. Morgenstern did exist.

Haha, that got me confused when I read the book too.
Goldman made up the story about his father reading him the "real" book by Morgensen when he was 10.

I wondered the same thing and researched this on the internet and I found out S. Morgenstern is not real. It is just a plot device. There is no country of Florin or Guilder, they are both coins.
