Stay away from Kias. They look good but the reliability is crap. The problems that Kias still have are electrical/electronic, suspension and transmission and engines. The A/C units are crap as the lines corrode quickly, transmissions and engine are of poor quality especially in the Spectra, Rio line. Getting things covered under warranty is like pulling teeth. Yes there are safe but they have to be when they break down and another car hits you by accident. I used to work in the service dept. at a Kia dealer and after awhile you just get tired of the BS from unhappy customers and a manufacturer that doesn't care about it's customers. ry a different brand like Nissan, Honda , Toyota or Subaru. The new Nissan Versa or Honda Fit are a nice cars and have proven themselves over in Europe as different model names.

I work at a kia dealership and their worst car is a sportage aka scrappage so dont get that one unless it is 06 or newer they are the best its funny the worst turned best when hyundai bought them out if your getting an older car (anything before an 06) then the optima's, spectra's, and amanti's are good cars. Remember it also depends on how well the previous owner/s took care of it. A good way to tell if someone took care of it is take off the oil cap and look inside the valve cover and if there is alot of thick cakey sludge then they didn't take care of it. If you can see the metal of the valve cover easily then they took care of it.

KIA's are like any other car. They are very well made and have a warranty to prove it. All manufactures have qualifiers that must be followed for the warranty to be in effect. Also, any car requires maintenance. Change your oil at 3000 miles yourself and save money or take it to the dealer. This is the biggest issue with owners not maintaining their car and then blaming it on the manufacture.
Drive one and make up your own mind.

KIA motors are very reliable. in the statements written above saying KIA cars have minor problems like faulty doors, wipers and windows, would you not prefer those minor problems to total transmission failure in the American cars? I use a 2000 KIA myself and has been using it for two years, so far i have no problem with it. It can get me to 80+ miles per hour on the freeway, drives smooth, comfortable and gets about 28 miles per gallon.
Their absolutely nothing wrong with a KIA.

I personally would avoid it. They have a very long warranty, but as stated above you will need it!
The biggest problems I have seen with them are actually very small problems... little things here and there that break constantly. Minor things, like wipers, mirrors, inside door handles, windows, etc., but it really adds up over time, not to mention your wasted time dealing with it.
And I don't know how anyone could say they seem to last forever... I have never seen one more than a few years old, except in a junk yard of course. I personally have never seen one out live it's warranty! I haven't met one person satisfied with their purchase either, at least not after the first year. All our customers who own one, are dissapointed, to say the least.

be careful with kias... there are alot of small things that can void the waranty very easily, and trust me.. u will NEED that waranty. What made you want to buy one. Have you heard good things? If you are doing it soley out of spite for ford or chevy... look at them. I read in Consumer Reports and on Yahoo that U.S automakers, especially Ford, are now built on better quality parts than foreign cars. Doesnt hurt to test drive.

From what I hear, Kia's are really reliable cars, have an awesome warranty and run forever. Good choice, especially if you do a lot of driving. I think that they are pretty good on gas too.

Kia used to make crappy cars. Their new cars are getting better, and Kia's quality is rising steadily now. You have a better chance of getting a good car with Hyundai. Hyundai owns half of Kia and helps them design and develop their cars. Hyundai has a much better reputation now.

There were a few problems in the ones that are about 10 years old but the newer ones have a very clean slate.
