Insert the recovery CD or windows CD in the laptop and REPAIR WINDOWS.

sounds as if you are running xp home edition service pack 1. make sure you have all the latest updates and you should be able to load them.

what error msg is it giving? Is the Hard drive full?

check your hard drive see how much space you have left on it.... bet it is getting full..
