My breasts are to big to fit into the cup for the breast pump and my milk hasn't even come in yet. What am I supposed to do to make my breasts fit, they don't have them in sizes.

I know that your whole breast isn't supposed to get in the cup, but I can't even get the nipple close enough to create suction.

If you use a Medela Breast pump (Medela Pump in Style) they have different cups for different size breasts. These cups are easy to find -- I know Target has them.

I think you definitely need to get a lactation consultant to show you - I am also a DD, and never had a problem with any breast pump - and I've had a different kind with each baby (4 so far). I know this is kinda gross sounding, but my best advice without seeing what you're doing, is to dampen the entire nipple/aureole area w/milk first, and to hold the pump very firmly against the breast - just jam it on there until the suction forms.

Talk to La Lache League or a lactation consultant through the hospital. They will look at how the breast is fitting in the shield. i was using a shield that was a medium and i actually needed an extra large. if you use the wrong size, it can damage tissue and prohibit milk production. The Medalla brand has breast shields for sale ( i got mine through LLL for a few bucks.) I don't know about any other brand pump.

Medela pumps are the best. They are very expensive. The WIC program sometimes rents them out for free or close to nothing. I had G breasts and mine fit into the medela pump cups. So, good luck. And good job for choosing to breast feed.

Your whole breast isn't supposed to fit into the cup. I'm a DD, and I never had a problem. You just put the nipple directly over the center and allow your breasts to form a seal around the circle, making it airtight.

Sounds to me like you are not positioning the pump correctly. I am a DD and never had any trouble with fit. You really need to talk to a lactataion consultant since they don't even recommend pumping for several weeks to establish a good milk supply. If you need to pump for other reasons you should still talk to one.

I had the same problem when I was trying to use an evenflo brand pump. My doctor suggested Medela pumps

they have different size cups.

(and we know your whole boob doesn't go in the cup, but it is VERY uncomfortable when not even your WHOLE nipple FITS in!)

The breast shields do, in fact, come in different sizes for almost all brands -particularly hospital grade.

However only the aerola and maybe an inch around it needs to be in the shield.

You don't need to fit your entire breast into the cup, it just needs to sit flush with your skin so you can form an airtight seal with the pump.
