Evolutionary theory explains how plants and animals change and adapt to changes. Zoology studies animals. At one time all animals were classified from visual examination of their interior and exterior parts. When the methods of evolution were discovered (DNA, etc.), analysis of DNA has shown that some animals are related in unexpected ways and that some similar animals are not related. It has also made interesting discoveries like the fact that today's lepards have an incredibly narrow genetic background that apparently goes back to one female several thousand years ago.
