So which is it, the tux or the dress? I don't think the Democratic Party would accept a cross-dresser, although I could be wrong.

A nice suit should do just fine; tuxedo's are a bit to formal for an interview.

No, it's an interview not a black tie event. you ONLY wear tuxedos to black tie events or if you happen to be getting married, for an interview you should wear a nice button up shirt, blazer, and a nice pair of pants (NOT jeans even if they are $300). a tie is optional (not a bow tie)
