There is no difference. They're both American-hating, anti-Semitic, extremist, barbaric, Muslims who cheered in the streets of Palestine during the attacks of 9/11. As far as I'm concerned they can continue fighting each other until they both no longer exist.

Fatah and Hamas are both political organizations that seek power within the quasi-government of the Palestinian Authority. Fatah is a violent terrorist organization that has long sought the destruction of Israel, but has recently been willing to compromise. Hamas is a violent terrorist organization that has long sought the destruction of Israel, and is prettymuch sticking to it's guns on that issue.

Hamas won the last general election, which should have placed them in control of the Palestinian Authority. But, Isreal, the US, and other nations cut aid to the PA as a result, and that led to the current Fatah leader being reluctant to hand over power.

It came down to a sort of civil war. Hamas has taken the Gaza Strip. Fatah retains the West Bank.
