If she was just at five weeks it will be like a heavier than normal period. There shouldn't be any need to go to a hospital as long as she passes everything naturally. At five weeks there's really not much tissue so she probably won't even be able to recognize anything. If she has really heavy cramping or is bleeding so heavily that she fills one pad per hour then she'll want to call her doctor. And no tampons during this time.

I had my miscarriage in April. I was 5 weeks along as well.
She doesn't need to go to the hospital since she isn't that far along. Her body will get rid of everything. She wont even know when she passes the baby since she isn't that far along. It's easier that way. When I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks along, I knew when I had passed the baby. I didn't need to go to the hospital for that one either.
She should bleed for about 7 days. It's like a normal period.
She will have her regular period the following month.
I asked the doctor when I could start trying for a baby again and he said right away since I was only 5 weeks.
If she has a negative blood type, she will need to get a shot of Rhogam once she stops bleeding.
If she bleeds longer than 12 days, she will need to go to the doctor to make sure things are ok.
If you have any questions, just email me.
I have had 2 miscarriages.

My due date is march 4th this is my third, my husbands second. I am 6wks 4 days today. Had a scan friday and saw the heartbeat. Right now just a lil nausa. dont really want to eat either and i am extremely tired all day then at nite i am wide awake. I do have trouble at 245 in the morn every morning, i wake and cant go back to sleep. Horrid constipation already and ready for the next 6wks to be over. WE really would like a girl, but as long as its healthy that is really all that matters. WE had been ttc for 2.5 yrs and had even taken clomid for 4mo with no success at all this was the first month we had really not tried and it was the second month we had used egg whites with the instead afterwards and it worked. We are so excited and nervous. I am 26 husband is 24 i have a 6 and 4 yr old boys from a previous marriage and he has a 5yr old girl for a prevoius relationship. wish you a great 9mo and be thankful for no sickness yet as i was really sick with my first and lost about 25lbs.

She should at least contact her ob/gyn. She needs to be monitored to make sure that there is no tissue left inside the uterus. She can go to the hospital (especially if she is having a lot of pain or lots of bleeding that will not slow down), but I would definitely recommend at the very least a call to the dr.
When I had my miscarriage, I bled heavily for a few days, then just a little for the next 2 weeks. It is a little different for every woman, though.

She should go to the hospital. They will need to check and make sure everything passed ok and clean out her body. If she does not go to the hospital or a Gyno, she could do damage to her body.
When I had my miscarriage I bled for almost two weeks after I got out of the hospital.
My sympathies to your friend, miscarriage is a hard thing to work through.

I am sincerely sorry to hear that she had to go through that. It's not easy at all. I hope she is ok. She would only need to go to the hospital if the bleeding was extremely heavy and constant. but everyone is different and she may bleed for a week or a couple of days. tell her not to use tampons if she does. and tell her to rest and not to do too much... give her body time to rest

She will bleed about 3-6 days, at only 5 weeks along she probably won't have to get a D & C, which is where they scrape her uterus for the remaining of the tissue. I was about 5 weeks when I miscarried along time ago, I know its hard and she has my condolences. I bled about 4 days and I went to the dr to get an ultrasound and they confirmed I miscarried. Hope this helps! Oh, tell her to get plenty of rest as well.

She may very well bleed for a few more weeks....it similar to what you go Through when you have a baby. If it goes for more than 8 weeks I would contact her dr.

She needs to go the hospital. If there wasn't anything wrong with the baby to cause the miscarriage, then there could be something wrong with her.
