I just moved in my new apartment yesterday, & ALL day today, my next door neighbors have been playing their music-well, not too loud, but loud enough for me to hear it, & the annoying part is that it's the SAME song over & over again, & I can't concentrate on my studies.

Just knock on their door and ask them politely to please turn their music down...

If they don't..............Call your Apt. Manager and complain!

First time......be nice
second time....do what you have to do!

I am a non-confrontational person and this is what I would do:

a) You could knock on their door and ask an easy question like, "IHi, I just moved in next door yesterday and I was wondering if you could tell me where the garbage area is" or something similar. If the person seems friendly then you can try some small talk like, "Hey, by the way, I was wondering if you knew where the nearest bank is...I have not seen one around." If you continue to get a friendly response then you can casually say, "You know, I have never lived in an apartment before. It seems like I can hear so much...like dogs barking, people talking out in the halls...I think I can even hear your music. Are all apartments like this?" If the person has any sense of common courtesy they will ask you to let them know if it bothers you again.
Since I don't know the type of people you will encounter I can't guarantee that this will work. Some people just don't get the hint. If you don't get anywhere with this idea than you can
b) research the local ordinances for noise in your area and anonymously call the authorities if necessary. If you do this, be sure to act very annoyed if they ever bring up the subject...like " Oh my gosh, no way! Some people! I guess I better watch the volume of my TV (say TV so they don't catch on that you know it was the stereo) before I get a ticket for that...I hear they are expensive.". If all else fails you can
c) turn your music up loud for a while and then knock on their door and say, "I just realized how loud my music was. So sorry about that. If I get to loud just let me know. " This may give them the hint as well.
d) If you want to avoid them at all costs I suggest ear plugs (Wal-Mart,,,by the guns (no pun intended) and a white noise machine (Target...bought one for my hubby so he can sleep through the day without the kids noise waking him). What ever your decision is, good luck. Just remember a little humor to break the ice always helps.

Are they home? Do they just have a CD player on loop?
Knock on the door and say "I am studying next door and if find the music just a little bit too loud and it seems to be the same song all the time, which is more annoying. Could you turn it down?" If they do not respond the way you want, ask the apartment manager if they will help. If they are never home, or don't answer, talk to the manager.

Since you said studies I would assume that you live in a college dorm, and if you do, the walls are usually paper thin. Well, what I would do is when you hear the music knock on their door and simple explain that you are studing and the music is distracting and ask if they could turn it down a bit. If they say no and continue to play it loud then talk to the RA or something.

Similar problem. I was told by police to always try diplomacy first. Put an anonymous letter in his mailbox (or send by way of girlfriend) letting him know (in a nice way) that volume knobs and/or headphones have been invented. If this has no effect, have landlord take a stab at it. Lastly get the police involved. Have all requests in writing with duplicate copies. It may take a week or so, but to keep peace be considerate and don't be nasty about it. Of course there was one time I lived in an apartment building next to a rap lover, I am a musician that owns a 1500 watt bass amplifier with 4 18"speakers. I set up system next to wall where his sound system was. Put on some AC/DC and turned up the volume. I got a knock on my door within seconds telling me of pictures falling off his wall. I politely informed him "I will when you do"and slammed door in his face. He moved three weeks later.

Is there an apartment manager in the facility? I would tell that person and let the individual in charge talk to them on what being a good neighbor means. Or contact the landlord directly, since there has to be a noise clause in the contracts.

I had the same prob. I just knocked on the door and politely asked them to turn it down a bit. They usually don't know how far the sound is traveling until someone tells them. Also if they put a piece of foam under their base speakers it will helpit from getting into your apt.

If you have a lawn and an electric mower or gas driven mower, start it up and let it sit outside near their home, but on your property. They should take the hint. Or play music loud enough that they can hear.
If that fails, buy a live chicken put it in a pet carrier and leave it on their porch and ring the doorbell and hide.

Go over and introduce yourself. Explain the situation and ask them to either turn the music down or atleast play a mix of songs.... I'd let it go, its only the first day, dont get off on the wrong foot.
PS- you have time to do this question while you study?

Ive got the same problem with my neighbors but i live in a house. If i was in an apartment I'd be complaining to the manager.. thats what they get paid to do.. deal with stuff like that so you dont have to.

Talk to your caretaker and ask them to talk to them. Never take matters into your own hands because you have no idea who your neighbours are and things could turn violent or you could get into a bad argument. Ask your care taker not to use your name and just say that he was walking by and thought the music was too loud.
