Because America its a relatively very young continent that was colonized by Spanish, English and Portuguese speaker countries. We have a few islands that speak French too i think.

Portuguese in South America and French in Canada. Hundreds, if not thousands, of Indian languages. English and Spanish are just the more visible ones.

There are lots of Norwegians, Czech., German, Polish, Russian, Vietnamese, and all types of languages spoken in America. Not just English and Spanish.

I've known people who speak Italian, German, French, Russian, Polish, and more languages--right here in the USA. Living in New York, and in Las Vegas, people come from all over the world, and speak their languages--at least at home.

stupid question. so, you are telling me if I go to Ireland, they are fluent in every language? highly doubt it. why do Australians speak English? why do people in India speak Indian? each country has 1 or 2 primary languages. Stop hatin on America. Land of the free and home of the brave

We have thousands of indigenous languages. I speak mine (Cherokee,) as well as five others. Don't be so ignorant.
And yes, some of us are directly descended from the FIRST AMERICANS, and our languages are truly American.
