Perception is as real as reality gets; it is the most
unquestionable link in the chain because it is closest
to the mind with the least cognitive alteration.
Perception is interpreted in the cognitive mind. Where
can a breakdown in reality occur? The physical peripherals,
the perception from the physical peripherals, or the
established cognition. The physical peripherals such
as the eyes or ears might be the culprits. For example,
a spec in the eye or an ear infection. The perception
from the physical peripherals being the assembly of
the combination of all which is perceived; the coming
together of what is seen, heard, felt can contradict
each other. For example, if an individual goes to a
concert and observes a performer who is holding
a trombone which sounds like a flute and the ground
is vibrating as if by some base then the individual
is likely to disbelieve what is observed even though
it is conceivably possible. The established cognition
is the foundation for discrimination of the perception.
For example, if an individual finds themself commonly
observing the situation from the previous example then
the individual might habituate belief in false realities
for lack of a rational foundation. Therefore, physicality,
perception, and interpretation can all be possible
culprits to the false reality. In my opinion, there is
no other way to know reality except through perception.
Therefore, perception is necessary even if elements
can interfere with its reliability; perception is as real
as it gets. Even though perception can be flawed,
I don't think the mind benefits by doubting perception,
but does benefit by doubting interpretation. How could
an individual doubt perception without calling into
question everything the individual has ever perceived;
no basis for evaluation of reality. Interpretation of what
is perceived is where authenticity should be validated.
Therefore, ideally, the mind has two copies of everything
observed. One copy is the exact perception and the
other copy is the interpretation. In this way, if an
interpretation is found to be false down the road
then the past exact(barring degradation) perception
can be consulted for cross-referencing. Therefore,
continuity can be maintained by implementation
of the misinterpretation rather than the misperception;
assume the perception is true and explain the perception
using the interpretation.

No. Perception is an awareness of the elements of the environment. You perception may very from mine, but we are still perceiving the same brute reality, though from a different angle Values may vary. The above example about the thousand page book is that. Good or bad as the book is, no one not suffering under a delusion would call the book a bicycle.

Perception, the way something appears to be. Reality, the way something actually is in fact.

We hear the expression "perception is reality" all the time. But, if it were correct, we probably wouldn't need both words.

Our "perception" of a new book may be that it is important because it has 1,000 pages and comes in a leather bound cover. The "reality" may be that it is a lousy book.

Yes, perception like all things is part of reality. But in the case of humans we have an intellect which is born 100% ignorant. We have to learn how to perceive correctly. BY that I mean we have to choose the right perspective before we can utilize perception to perceive reality as it is.

Perception is often like a malfunctioning CD player. If the vision is faulty it does not read reality as it is. This just happens to be the case for humans. We have two visions (perceptions) of reality. Simply because there are two perceptions, neither vision is correct which means the perspectives are incorrect.

Now, perception is part of reality because it dominates our intellect and controls our actions. Without it we are dead and by extension all things are dead including material non-living things. There will be no interactions what-so-ever at any level without perception.

Its not the only reality and its not the ultimate reality but its the only reality that we have. Well unless you have found a good way to tap into the other ones...

... some people talk of a 'universal mind' (ie - a shared reality beyond our own limited perception-based existence) Some people think thats where you go when you die.

I don't know anything for sure, and thats my perception.

We are perceivers! From the moment we are born we perceive the reality that we are born into, and make that reality ours! A person born in the jungle will have a different reality than one born in New York city! So yes you can say that perception is reality! But you also have to say that different perceptions produce different realities!!

No. Perception is the method of how to systematically understand the world sorrounding man and mankind itself.
There are generally 3 systems of perception of understanding:
1. Rationalism - Purely human reasoning only. What spontaneously comes from his mind;
2. Empricsm - Scientific way of experimenting to have truth come out;
3. Faith - from God's Revelation that man never can never be measured either by Rationalism or Empericsm.

What you perceive as being real, is real to you. However since I may perceive things differently from you it creates a different reality for me.

So yeah, perception is reality, or at least your perception is your reality.
