I have a judgement on a guy for stealing $7000.00 or so from me. It's been a year and I havn't received anything from it. My lawyer doesn't seem to be interested in getting my money back. The guy as far as I know doesn't have a job. doesn't own his car, doesn't have a checking or savings account. What should I do? I'm paying my loan that I had to get to cover this. It's really putting a strain on me financially. I just want my money.

Unfortunately, getting a judgement doesn't get your money back - it just verifies that the person does owe it to you. If he doesn't have a job so his wages can be garnished, and doesn't have assets that can be seized, there isn't really anything you can do until he has something you can seize for the debt. Sorry.

First of all change your lawyer and start calling firms or solo lawyers to see who you feel is best for the job. Even if you have to talk to a million lawyers but find the one you think is right for you.
Last even though this problem is hurting you financially now it might help you later on. Because the guy is not going to remain in that state with no car and money for the rest of his life. He would eventually change and that's where you come in to take your money back. So don't loose track of him. You would get your money back maybe not soon enough but you would get it and you'll be happy is was then that before (don't forget to add the lawyers cost).

Can't get blood out of a turnip. If he has no money, he can't pay you.

Keep an eye on him - if he ever has some money, try again.

If it was a bad loan, you can write it off and claim it on taxes - if it was documented (loan agreement). If he actually stole it from you, you can file charges with local police for theft or fraud.

You need a new lawyer and you need to file for Contempt of Court. He will be arrested and he will come up with your money then.
