I have a relative who has a fear of thunderstorms, and I want to know what can help her. She gets to thinking it will always be severe and is scared of a tornado happening. Please give ideas about what to calm her down. Thanks.

I have a great recall of having that same phobia. Then, I figured it out. GOD is in control, and anything that happens to you is in his plan. Have faith that GOD will keep you safe at night, and just believe in him. The phobia lifts off like a blanket. Its really calming knowing that you don't have to worry about a thing. I don't like the loud noise of lightning because my ears are sensitive, but I don't worry about death in them. Neither should she. GOD has a plan for all who believe in him. A plan to give them a hope, and a future.

If she stays inside near the center of her house then no lightning will hit her. If a thunderstorm is approaching, turn on the TV and watch the news to see if there is a tornado watch. If there is then listen for a loud train-like sound. That is a tornado. We have a closet under our stairs, but if she doesnt have that get to the center on the house in a room with no windows. If it is a one story house, she should get in the bathtub. This is all assuming she hears a train sound.

Help her find a safe place to go in her house when there is a severe storm alert. You could maybe run through a storm drill with her so she would know what to do. It is kind of like a fire drill at a school. It is good you care.

it depends where you live for tornadoes to happen because if you live in the Northern states there will be no tornadoes but if you live in states like Kansas there will be tornadoes but it doesn't happen in every thunderstorm

Buy her a weather radio so she can keep track of the storms. That way she can keep track of everything as it happens and be prepared if she needs to. It may help her feel she has some control in the situation.
