Aaaah... I just read some responses on Y!A about "the People's Republic of Seattle." Is this our reputation? I thought we were just coffee and granola and rain!

That is what I heard, the socialist part. I am sure it is only a tendency of some, like in San Fran.

Labeling is too simple but its popular so I'll join in.
Yes we are liberal here, but not socialist, meaning big government and big spending. I think Bush N CO. have the market cornered in that area. As for Seattle liberalism we don't allow people to dump poisons in our rivers and lakes, because we don't want to eat toxic fish and shellfish no matter how many jobs it creates or loses. Thats not socialist its smart. We don't need to point our fingers at others who are different in order to make ourselves feel good.
The Republicans have made some recent gains and held the state senate for one year. They passed a law to stop frivolous lawsuits, the law as it was was passed, makes it impossible to sue your employer if they kill you on the job due to there negligence. I label that as stupid. But lets stick to the two labels its easier.

I never thought that but I think the Northwest, as a whole, is very liberal. I lived in Portland, Oregon for one year and it felt like a lifetime. I did not fit in. I am liberal on many issues but the people I interacted with on a daily basis were far left. I was a fish out of water. eeeeek.

Did someone just ask a ? about banning microwave popcorn in Seattle? that's why people think of Seattle as Socialst.
Personally, I dig Seattle and I don't think a little socialism is so bad. Our country is an always changing balance of Socialism and Capitalism. If it was totally one or the other it would be bad.

edit: Farly, wtf do you know about being "normal"

Yeah, you're pretty well known as liberal/socialist/commie. It's a west coast thing. The middle is normal, the two coasts are wacky.
