In many places around the world, including some western countries such as the UK, home births are the norm, and hospital births are reserved for situations where there might be complications in the delivery, or the mother has a condition such as gestational diabetes which needs to be monitored.
Western medicine has traditonally put a lot of emphasis on doctors as the 'all knowing' people whose presence can make relatively simple procedures such as births safer and more successful.
There is no doubt that the advent of basic hygienic standards and the use of tools such as forceps, as well as advances in techniques like caesarian birth have all contributed to lower infant and maternal mortality rates in modern western countries.
However, a lot of this imporvement is also due to better nutrition and increased understand by pregnant women of the procedures involved in birthing.
Since most of these standards are easily transferable to a domestic situation, there is no reason most births cannot happen safely at home, if that is what the pregnant woman feels most comfortable with.
Best wishes :-)

Hospitals are for sick people and are full of dangerous bacteria and diseases. If you are healthy and the baby is healthy it can be a great choice. My wife was always afraid something would happen so our five were born in a hospital. Many of our friends have had home births and things have turned out great. A cousin always has hers at home, it only takes about 5 minutes so there is no choice. It's not a health issue it's a personal comfort, peace of mind issue.

It could be risky not to be in a hospital when you give birth. There wouldn't be immediate help if any complications arose.
Then again, women have done "home births" since time began. It might be comforting to have familliar surroundings. But I'd have a mom, or somebody who knew what they were doing in the room, just in case. It's not really wrong or right, it's just a matter of being smart.

Hi,
I'm thinking your first birth should be under the most comfortable place you feel best at. (For me I would want my first in the hospital and then maybe next at home).
Either way would be fine if the proper steps and care was and were provided & thought out.
A personal choice as like abortion

Scary! If I hadn't been at the hospital and had an emergency c-section my son would have died. He was in the NICU for a week! He needed immediate attention that a home birth and midwife could not provide. It's too risky. No way will I ever risk the life of my child to pop out a kid at home. No way.

Wrong for me. I guess it's cheaper than going to a hospital. The only thing that scares me is not knowing if you or your baby is high risk or in danger. And bleeding.

Nothing wrong with it. I'd get a midwife, though.
