I was just wondering if anybody knows if NOS can be used with a hybrid engine. I am a big fan of hybrid engines, but am also interested to see if they can be modified.

Modifying a hybrid for speed is like copulating for virginity.

There is no such thing as a "hybrid" engine - there is both a gasoline engine and an electric motor in a hybrid vehicle, with the electric motor running off a battery pack or sometimes a fuel cell.

So, yes, you could add NOS to the gasoline engine in a hybrid vehicle - just as you can add it to any gasoline engine - the question is why ?

The purpose of this engine in a hybrid is to keep the battery charged and provide highway power, and is optimized for that function. NOS won't help you charge the battery any faster.

If you are looking for speed, you should perhaps start with something which burns straight gasoline and does not have the added weight and complexity of an electric motor in tandem with the gasoline engine.

The engine does charge the battery when it is running. The battery is too weak to use to start the car in motion and to run at highway speeds so the engine turns on to do both. Hybrids are not plugged in to charge only all electric cars are. Conspiracies are easy answers that most people do not wish to accept in my book.

yes you can, this is from wikipedia, In vehicle racing, nitrous oxide (often referred to as just "nitrous" in this context to differ from the acronym NOS which is the brand Nitrous Oxide Systems) is sometimes injected into the intake manifold (or prior to the intake manifold; some systems directly inject right before the cylinder) to increase power. The gas itself is not flammable, but it delivers more oxygen than atmospheric air by breaking down at elevated temperatures, allowing the engine to burn more fuel and air, resulting in more powerful combustion. Nitrous oxide is stored as a compressed liquid, the evaporation and expansion of liquid nitrous oxide in the intake manifold causes a large drop in intake charge temperature, resulting in a denser charge, further allowing more air/fuel mixture to enter the cylinder. The lower temperature can also reduce detonation.

you need to study-up on the reasons for the hybrid , the reasons for it and why it was designed. at this time, though
the engine has no ability to take any modifications, it is barely able to run on it's own gas. give it a few more years.

of course it can hybrids just uses smaller gas internal combustion engines in combination with an electric motor. to put it simply its a smaller more efficient regular gasoline engine with an electric motor the motor kicks in when you don't need a lot of power or idling, cruising or not climbing hills. then when you need power to accelerate climb hills etc. the gas engine kicks in.

Try modding the battery pack or suplementing it for more power/mileage. Do a search for "high milers" or "hyper milers" clubs where people see how far they can push the limits of fuel economy with their hybrids. Contact club members for ideas on mods. Cylinder deactivation system like Chrysler's might be a way to get more power for short periods and still have the economy of a smaller engine for daily driving. Diesel or bio-fuel/electric will be the next step---trains and huge ore trucks already use diesel/electric.
