are they 2 different things?

Yes, they are two different things. Fairies are considered to be spirits, though their appearance in folklore and myth always seems to differ, their either helping a person, leading them to their doom, or trying to steal a baby.

Nymphs are beautiful beings who are either bound to a particular location or land form or joining the retinue of a god. They are mentioned in many folklore as the mother of demi gods, having tragic fates, helping mortals or gods (More than likely goddesses, like Athena and Artemis).

Fairies are a race.....do a search term on Tu'atha de Danann.
Nymphs, are a part of the race of Fae, Faerie, Wee Folk, The Great and Shining Ones.....
Think of this analogy: I myself am Native American, however I narrow that down even moreso.....My tribes are respectively Lakotah Sioux, and Cherokee. I'm still a part of the human race, I just happen to be a sector or part of the overall whole.
So, a fairy is a nymph......and a pixie....and a leprechaun....a brownie, a kelpie, a water sprite, a kobold.....
Also, not all fairies have wings; big misconception
