Maybe we would be better off with private fire care ?
How about if you call the 'for profit' fire dept, and you find out that they lost your paper work, and said, please call back during regular business hours....then dail tone.!
How about a 'for profit' police dept. ? That sounds real cool !
Would criminals be able buy their way out of trouble?
Or would the criminals prey on folks not current will the police bill?
Or would 'for profit' health care mean that your family member will die on the floor of a modern hospital because of a funding issue?

You may not be old enough to know that at one time our country worked rather well. Government actually helped people and did right by its citizens. In my neck of the woods we have volunteer firemen, and volunteer ambulance, and they have public funding too, for right now its working, but its on edge, life is too expensive now to volunteer.
I never have seen how layering on another layer of profits makes health care cheaper. I mean if you have to pay those exorbitant CEO salaries, and HMOs and insurance companies get some of the highest paypackets in the US, that money, in the millions in fact, doesn't go back to the people paying the premiums. Government, stripped of the politics that have given us Heckuva Job Brownie, and other assorted incompetents, does well by us, ask a senior the last time he missed a social security check, sure there are problems sometimes, but by and large they did a good job.
Right now we have the best medical care in the world as long as you can afford it, just today in our small town newspaper, there were requests for donations for a small girl whose head was hit by a boat propeller, and a request for donations for a burn victim, another child without insurance. We have some state help for kids here, but they need more for reconstructive work. I hate seeing those cans in the convenience stores, is this country in such bad shape that we have to fund health care by quarters?
We already can't go to which ever hospital or doctor we want, unless we pay for it ourselves, and even for working people that gets terribly expensive. When you have insurance or an HMO you can only go to doctors on the list. Other wise they either pay a minimum or nothing at all.
Do you realize that a huge proportion of bankruptcies are caused by medical bills, do you also realize that insurance generally won't cover you if your bills go over a million in your lifetime, a couple of bouts of cancer and you are on your own.

I think this Congress is more than capable of screwing up a wet dream.

BTW, Canada and their wonderful system has a 19 week wait to see a specialist. It is illegal to have private insurance and Doctors and nurses are the biggest criminals. Additionally it is virtually impossible to get into a clinic in Seattle, WA especially on Monday morning as the place is waist deep in Canadians.

Good luck on even surviving universal health care. I am old and about finished but there will be a heII of a lot less Social Security problems when cardiac bypass patients have to wait years like they do in England. My mother-in-law would be dead under Canadian care.

May I suggest you do some research. Find out how many MRI and CT Scan machines are available in Canada and England. Then do the same for Orange County California and/or Dade County Florida. Then compare the populations of all four places. OR, you can just be a good Democrat and vote for a system that will work great for 3 to 6 months and from that point forward it will be obsolete. Once the government funds the initial process the funding will stop or slow to the point where there will be no progress. Everything will stagnate and you will die waiting for routine care because the clinic you depend on doesn't have a new diagnostic tool.

I know you don't like to hear it but government control is absurd and their funding will be a mess all the time. I spent 22 years in the US Air Force. I could tell you scores of stories but you will have to settle for one. When I was stationed in Texas I took money out of my own pocket to purchase transistors to keep equipment operational to protect you and the rest of the citizens. It wasn't much and didn't break the bank or take food from my family but I had to do it. You see the Congress had the budget all screwed up AGAIN and late as usual. I didn't have funds to buy parts to maintain equipment. The bad part was there was still money to paint mockups of aircraft and put the pretty display at the front gate. This is not an unusual situation. I can guarantee you will find people painting the front door to the hospital while the staff is sterilizing tongue depressors for reuse.

Sorry, but it's the truth. They aren't capable of managing anything as important as my health care.

Better question. Why do we need Universal Health Care in the first place?

I'm sorry, but that will only water down our health care industry & probably kill drug research. Why you ask?

Because we will need more doctors. Hospitals are already overworked as is. Graduation rates would need to increase to keep up. Remeber only 1 in 2 doctors graduate in the top 1/2 of their class. What will happen to standards? Why increase the availability/stress?

Drugs are handed out like candy. The increased demand might cause companies to rush them through development. Meaning, the drugs don't get tested completely. Have you seen any of the dozens of drug adds on TV? Do we really need to be adding more to the list of complications?

Simply put. Some things are meant to be expensive. People aren't meant to last forever. Health care should be expensive to ensure its quality.

Anything the federal govt gets their fingers into, they screw up "universally". Is the health insurance industry messed up? YES!!! Would the feds fix it? NO!!! If we could treat health care like auto insurance, things would be a lot cheaper. You don't call your agent for an oil change do you? Why copay for a hangnail then? Doing this would lower costs across the board, and by the way, the "poor" people, get plenty of care. Federal law states that if you show up at an emergency room, you MUST be treated.

definite, Clinton did attempt to recreate our healthcare equipment. He appointed Hillary to lead the can charge. yet as a results of fact he entered the White domicile with maximum of Washington beginners, he spent the great majority of his political capital in his first 2 years, then he lost administration of the two properties to republicans and something develop into background. Barack's luck in this concern relies upon on whilst he comes to a decision to handle it. It must be performed interior the 1st 2 years as a results of fact the political capital needed would be long gone after that. He seems to be leaning in direction of going after Healthcare first lower back. Time will tell. the reason something must be performed is which you're already procuring the coke head who's performed it to himself. Your tax funds are procuring that individual's healthcare. yet you're paying appropriate greenback. a minimum of a few style of familiar plan for persons who have not got jobs and can't pay for it themselves gets you a decrease cost for the coke head if no longer something.

Yes, of course they would - it would cost a fortune and politically it could be suicidal when you have to raise taxes to meet the cost.

Fire Dept - "we can't find your papers they were lost in an office fire some time ago we wanted to put the fire out but unfortunately we didn't have the insurance."

Cool question! Nice one.

I sure hope so.

you a commie?

I personally want to have choice in my health provider, and what brand of drugs I take...I think government control in the health sector should be even more limited than it already is.
