I think men should get a vasectomy only if they want one.

Why? If I ever have a kid, I'd like it to be done in a natural way. Of course, if it's not possible, I'll use science. Condoms are good, and then, when you're in a relationship, you can use an intrauterine device (IUD), even if you've never had a kid before (the new ones are very effective and small). A IUD stays in a woman's body for a while, and there's no chemical (as opposed to the pill).
Also, I know someone who has one because he and his wife didn't want kids anymore. Well, that seems to be a sensible idea, since both agreed on the subject. Unfortunately, they divorced, and he had an operation to have things put back together (which does not always work) because he wants other children.

Even a vasectomy is not 100%. Any kind of birth control can fail. If you want to reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies use protection, be responsible, use more than one type of birth control and do not have sex with just anyone, only have sex with others that are just as responsible as you are. A vasectomy is a really personal choice. You should not do it on the spur of the moment either. You should think about it first because it can be a life altering choice.

The only men who should have vasectomies are idiots that have no business reproducing. How about getting all the men in the world together and the most genetically superior men get to keep their sperm, that way us ladies can weed out all the men who are just trolls! Is that the kind of answer you were looking for?

Only if the guy wants it.
Anyway my hubby had a vasectomy a few years back and afterwards he was a bit tender, but as long as I brought him the frozen peas from the freezer every now and then, he was ok :)
I can't use any sort of pill or anything that's hormone based as it plays havoc on me(the hormones send me suicidal it's true) and because of our financial situation, a vasectomy would've resulted in less time off from work than if I'd had my tubes tied.

Just stop and think for a micro second.
If all Men had the procedure who then would Father the next generation of children. Are You asking for the sake of impact, or are You trying to suggest that Men should take the responsibility for a Women's right to bear children? Which ever way You look at it people will question Your motives. Now go and ask You Father if He ever regrets not having gone through with His.

NO i don't think every guy should get a vasectomy. that would be silly. just like women you need to have protection. both parties should be ready and willing to accept what ever comes. and not just think of abortions.

Not at all. Vasectomy is a voluntary procedure for a reason. If he wants to make sure he does not father any children or anymore children, vasectomy is certainly an option available to him and if he wishes, he can utilize it.
No one should be forced to have a surgery because of a law, that simple. Either we have autonomy over our medical decisions or we don't, there is no halfway.

Well, when you put it THAT way . . . but no. I still think guys who want children will prefer to do it the natural way.
Ideally, all orphans would be adopted into good families before we started procreating again, but I seriously doubt it'll happen.
Speaking personally, I don't care who gets a vasectomy, because they still won't be able to get me pregnant.

Any man that is afraid to get a vasectomy dos not need sex anyway. It amazes me to see guys with tattoos and body piercing afraid of something as simple, and risk free as a vasectomy.
