Where I live, in the central part of China, there are factories that make car parts for American, Chinese and European vehicles. One of the big factories makes nothing but axles.
All world economies are now globalized. You can't make statements like you have without looking at how the world is working today. This is not like 1970 where an American car was 100% American. I'm not sure what it is now, but I'd say its probably closer to 40% American made.
If we didn't have places like China to make car parts for us an American car wouldn't cost you $20,000 but rather $50,000.
I hate to say it, but it is no longer us against them, it is us against ourselves. We are our own biggest enemy with our divisive politics while wasting our legislative time on moral issues when we should be dealing with our children's future.
It is not our lame government that is letting this happen, it is our lame people who got their priorities all screwed up around flag burning, abortion, prayer in school and immigration -- much of which does not affect the average citizen.
That is our failure.
Signed, an ex pat living in the center of China.
Peace

A.) It provides Mexico with jobs, so maybe they'll stop being so parasitic in terms of the US.
B.) Maybe Mexicans will start sneaking on planes back to China instead of looking to the US border. That gets rid of 2 problems - less illegals and it hurts China. Win Win!

Let me get this straight. Stop China from making a Profit? Bil Clinton put them in the WTO, without them having to follow the rules the rest of the countries have to.
Perhaps if we would quit placing so many restrictions on AMERICAN businesses, get rid of over priced Labor Unions, we could compete.
Herbert Hoover tried what you are asking for. Then came the Great Depression. No Thank You...

Part of the global economy I guess. China does want in to South America but I don't think we will see Mexicans immigrating to China because they have poor social services and everyone is expected to work for the common good.

Well, Mexican goverment sees jobs, and less people going to the Untied States, but we more diabolical reasons China wants to make vehciles here its to destroy the traditonal big three Automakers by undercutting by selling Chinese made cars under production prices. How, do the Chinese do that they lower the value of the currency and make the people worth less then they really are thru making the yuan less value then it really is. Populism is lurking in Mexico and Untied States in the next decade because of China.

Ford and VW also build cars in Mexico and sell them here. But we don't have to buy them.

Let me put it this way: It will create jobs in Mexico so they won't be coming here illegally.
