First: combine "like" terms - subtract 0.8y from both sides (when you move a term to the opposite side, always use the opposite sign).

1.3y - 0.8y + 4.4 = 0.8y - 0.8y + 4.1
1.3y - 0.8y + 4.4 = 4.1
0.5y + 4.4 = 4.1

Sec: subtract 4.4 from both sides...

0.5y + 4.4 - 4.4 = 4.1 - 4.4
0.5y = 4.1 - 4.4
0.5y = - 0.3

Third: divide both sides by 0.5

(0.5y)/0.5 = (- 0.3)/0.5
y = (-0.3)/0.5
y = - 0.6

1.3y - 0.8y = 4.1 - 4.4
0.5y = - 0.3
y = - 0.3 / 0.5
y = - 3 / 5
y = - 6 / 10
y = - 0.6

multiply by 10 to get rid of the decimal fractions:

13y + 44 = 8y + 41
