And do you think that concept will ever come up in his trial?

yes, yes, yes. He saw this case as an opportunity to ingratiate himself into the black community which he needed to get votes from.
He had never had to run for office before. He had been in the DA's office for all of his career and he had been appointed in 2005 to finish out the unexpired term of John Hardin who had accepted a Superior Court judgeship.
He was behind in the polls and what probably stuck in his craw was the fact that he had been behind in the polls to someone he had fired from the DAs office when he became Durham DA. Freda Black had been kicking his butt in the polls but once this story broke (especially with his help- 73 interviews locally and nationwide combined) his polls numbers jumped and the black community came out and voted for him in droves because he was seen as taking up for the " poor black girl " who had been taken advantage of by these " rich white boys"
The concept probably won't because although we see it and in our minds we know it, there is nothing on paper that can point to his deliberately doing this for political gain.

I think he wanted to grab national headlines. The race thing could have been an issue, but I do not think that if this was a case with only local media coverage, he would have pushed so hard. He wanted to be famous. He wanted media attention, and it looks like he got it.

I don't think he did it specifically to get the "black vote".
I think he did it so he could get a highly publicized trial with his name on it. In the end, he got what he was looking for (but I don't think he expected that he would be the one on trial).

Who cares? It didn't work!
I doubt if it will come up.
How do we compensate those accused? their lifes are ruined!
And Nifong isn't the only one who should be on trial. How about the stripper who had how many other DNAs down there?
