Not necessarily. Besides the necessity of doing work to earn money to buy the things necessary for survival, if you enjoy the type of work you do, then no, work is not overrated. However, if you are working a job that you dislike or you are treated badly or are just generally stressed out and unhappy then yes, you could say work is overrated.

That depends what you do for a living...I don't work, I have a career as a professional engineer, which for me, is fun.

Yes it is, but many people don't have any hobbies/talents, so they have little else to do but work, eat, and sleep.
