There are quite a few good reasons to have a problem with Phil Collins.
1. The regression of Genesis: From "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" to "Invisible Touch". Prog-rock to packing material.
2. That whiny, grating voice of his, rendered only slightly palatable by 20 studio techs.
3. "Sussudio".
4. The film "Buster".
5. Yes, the Disney soundtracks. It is in fact possible to be more of a washed-up whore than McCartney.

Phil made alot of pop music, so he had TONS of exposure. Any artist who gets that much exposure is going to get backlash from people who are sick of him.
I'm a Phil fan from way back, just after Peter Gabriel left Genesis, but I understand why some people can't stand him. I haven't bought an album of his since the early 1990s.
Like anything, it's a matter of opinion. The South Park parody of him was pretty funny. ;)

I would imagine it has to do with how Genesis changed after he joined.
I personally have no problem with the guy, but the whole Tarzan soundtrack thing kind of made me a do a double take.

he played in chicago a few years ago. he refused to sing anything at all at the time. hes a jerk for acting like that.
