to kyle h: if i'm following my dad in his truck and a rock like that hits my windshield how am i gonna get back home. like i said. i want it to be street legal. so i want to take it off and put it back on. the old volkswagons had it where you can flip it open. i will be using that truck to get out to the desert, and having fun with it.

to nvhschem guy: i will have safety restraints. they come over both shoulders, over your stomach, and between your legs, like a car seat but these are going to be bolted down.

you didnt tell me what kinda truck you drive so i cant tell how easy this is or isnt. i like everyone else dont recommend it but if your truck has a rubber gasket window its quite easy to pull out and put in
theres a strip in the center of the rubber called a locking strip remove that then spray seal with wd-40 then gently and with as even pressure push the window out of the seal.to reinstall put a thin rope in the window seal and set the window in then pull the string and the window will work itself back in. keep in mind thats only one kinda window seal if you have a glued in window it is best removed by a glass shop and if your gonna pay for that you might as well be buying a new window anyway.btw......ive broken more then one window removing it and replacing it so this isnt the best idea.

Yeah you just take the windshield off. No longer street legal but I cant believe you would think if you crashed if you would be more safe without it. It would probably save your life in a crash. An off road race and that 2 lb rock flying up and hitting you in the head at 60 miles an hour.

They are there for protection the windshield shatters but stays together. Maybe you have already did this and had one of those rocks hit you in the head. Otherwise it makes no sense.

*update* so you would rather have a rock come at your face at 60 MPH and hit you in your googles then to just have another windshield that might cost you 100 bucks.

Good luck with whatever you do, but I just cant debate that logic.

the windshield of every car is actually a safety feature. It is designed to keep you in the car and if you have airbags to act as a back stop and help direct their deployment. Matter of fact that is why it is ticketable in many states to drive with cracked windshields because they no longer work correctly and why you always want them replaced professionally because otherwise you risk them popping out in a wreck and making things worse. A correctly installed windshield will break and stay in position and to get them out the fire department takes an axe cuts around the edges and rolls them up like a rug. Really cool

You do NOT want to remove the windshield. Believe it or not, it is actually a major structural part of a vehicle. Plus, the windshield will not shatter. It is made of a piece of plastic laminated between 2 sheets of glass.
If your windshield gets hit by a big rock or something when you're offroading, it will look something like this: http://www.azfotos.com/traffic_transportation/cars-and-trucks/car-pictures/stock-photos-alamy/car-accidents-pictures-window_AJM553.jpg

Modern safety glass is laminated or sandwiched with a layer of plastic in the middle of the glass and does not shatter but cracks and stays in place because of the plastic holding it together---much safer with a windshield in place than not.
