mckenzie, here's a quote for you:

"Naturally, the common people don't want war...but after all it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a parliament, or a fascist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country"

Does that sound like one of your favorite neocon idols? Guess again. That's Nazi general Hermann Goering. Welcome to the Fascist States of America. Here's another good quote:

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

-- Theodore Roosevelt in the Kansas City Star, 149
May 7, 1918

The people you think are guilty of "sedition" are the true patriots. Your neocon leaders are trying to take away freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and everything else that once made this country great. It's not just our right but our civic duty to speak out against injustice. If we don't, that could be the reason why the country "implodes".

As for the original question, I'd say China is as good a guess as any, but I hope Americans will come to their senses before that happens. The 2006 election was a step in the right direction, so I think there's hope.

nick d, people like you scare the hell out of me. Are you saying you'd willingly give up your freedom just to feel safer? That's what made Hitler as successful as he was and what George Orwell warned us about in "1984". What makes you think the Bill of Rights will continue to protect us when new laws like the Patriot Act are gutting it like a fish? Our biggest current threat is from our own government, not from the outside.

Every great Superpower falls one day,the question is when.I don't think we'll ever get taken over thanks to the second Amendment but most superpowers fall because of problems within their own country.China is slowly getting their country started, last time I checked they were constructing a dam that would make hoover dam look like child's play. Our freedom may be our greatest strength, but it is also our greatest weakness and may one day cause the fall of this great nation. Its a big possibility that China will rise in our place and it will be there turn until they fall as well.Every great superpower must one day fall, like I said, the question is when, after all look how long the Roman Empire stood before it came to an end.

What do you mean, "implode?"

The next superpower will be America as the first Nanotechnology Society. Wholly unbeatable.

We will tell the rest of the world: "You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile."
