1994 ford ranger xlt, manual .. when driving in city i smelled burning. truck acted fine but after a while i noticed that the steering pulled to the left when braking. burning smell got more distinctive. was only three miles from home so i drove home. after stopping, a white cloud of smoke billowed from under the hood on the right side and smoke could be seen from just above the tire. my books say coolant but i am full of that and full of oil and full of power steering fluid and full of brake fluid. no leaks can be found. what could be the problem? wiring? clutch? thanks for any help.

Your brake caliper is sticking probably because of a bad brake hose. I'd replace both calipers and both brake hoses.

Fan belt may have slipped on a frozen pulley. (Alternator, water pump, or power steering)

After the truck cools down a while, open the hood and check for a (friction)burn mark on the serpentine belt (fan belt).

Start the truck, and watch all the pulleys to make sure they are ALL turning and listen for any strange noises.

You may have a coolant leak that sprayed antifreeze on the belt and caused it to slip.
It could also be a bad bearing on the A/C.

I wish I could be more help.......

maybe brake caliper is starting to malfunction. Not releasing pressure and causing rotor to rub.

Maybe wheel bearings are old and need to be replaced.

off the top of my head that is all i can think of with the symptoms you described.

Good Luck

Check to see if something broke in the front end, ball joints ect..
Is your tire rubbing against something? Is your tire loose?

Sound like you might have a broken serpentine belt
