I say Merriman is because he is a beast on the field! ESPN has a top five and I wanted to see what everyone thinks!

Merriman would be a good bet if it wasn't pound for pound. Weighing in at a whopping 272 lbs hurts his campaign.
Depending on how you define scary there are two answers. If we are talking hard hitters, the answer is Troy Palamalu. No one at 210 lbs. shows such wreckless abandon on the feild and will knock you out without blinking. Lewis(250 lbs), Urlacher(260 lbs), and Merriman(270 lbs), all fall out of the pound for pound crown due to excess poundage. If you define scary as excellent performance, the answer is Champ Bailey(192 lbs). No defense player has ever been traded straight up for a franchise running back but Champ Bailey. He is the most schemed against db in the NFL and, still checking on validation, receives less then 10% of passes thrown to his side of the feild according to ESPN.

Champ Bailey?

I would have to say Sean Taylor and Merriman are good picks. Ray Lewis and Rodney Harrison would have been my picks hands down, about 3-5 years ago.

Besides Taylor and Merriman I would also agree with Palumalu and Urlacher and put in his teammate, Tommie Harris. If you ever see this guy during a game, you would know he is probably the quickest DL in the game. Imagine 300+ lbs. running at you full speed.

Not a Bears fan.

I have two people tied for first. #1, Brian Dawkins, that man can put a hurting on you, and #2. Ray Lewis, that is a beast on the field, he will chew you up and spit u out merriman.

Merriman, he's fast, brutal, great at making reads about the offense, and he's still so young he hasn't even come close to hitting his prime. He makes defenses think twice about going over the middle and also makes it difficult for the running game to gain any momentum. He has great awareness on the field and has so much raw/natural talent for the game. He reminds me of a very young Mike Singletary.

Merriman uses steroids.

Champ Bailey is the scariest Defender in the league and the best at what he does.

I am not a ravens fan at all but I would say Ray Lewis. I mean not only does he intimidate players but he inspires his whole defense. The more he goats his defense on the better they play.
Which would explain the raven defense in top 10 since lewis's arrival to the team.

Simply put... Ray Lewis!

When asked 3-4 out of 5 running backs said he hit harder than any other linebacker out there.

The man plays possessed, and isn't ranked up there as one of the best for nothing. If he could stay healthy he'd break every record in tackles out there along with possibly sacks.
