The air conditioner runs constantly. we had the maintenence people come over all ready, they had people over to recharge it. they did supposedly. they are also saying that it's normal on a second floor apartment for the machine to run constantly. Does that sound right to you? i mean that's gonna make a pretty hefty electric bill which we wouldn't be able to pay at all. are they gouging us or do they simply just not care? Help

Second floor units are warmer than first floor, simply because they have more exposure to the sun, and also have a hot attic overhead.

Assuming that the AC unit is functioning properly, your options are to learn to live with a higher temperature or pay the costs involved in keeping the premises at a temperature you like.

Remember, nature creates the temperatures where you live. There is no legal right to reduce those temps without paying for the privilege of doing so.

I don't know what their taking about I lived in a 2nd floor apartment and air conditioner did not run constantly. I would check temperature of air coming out of vents and talk to neighbors and see if they have same problem. If so call the property management company.

Your air cooler runs constantly, is your living space cool, or is it still warm? Does it ever get cooler? Are the filters clean? Take a good thermometer and put it by the return duct (duct going into the cooler. Move the thermometer to the supply duct (duct coming out of the cooler). You should see a drop of 16 to 22 degrees. If you do not, the system is not operating properly.

It doesn't sound right to run constantly. If it's a big A/C that draws a lot of currant then it should be on it's own circuit. For a quick fix go to your main fuse box and flick the switch off to cut the power off to your A/C. When you need the A/C on again, go back the the fuse box and turn it on again.

They are gouging you. I lived on the 2nd floor in a 3 bedroom apt for 8 years and my bill was never over $100.00

The thermostat in the unit may not be reading the temp and therefore, shutting off the unit. Try turning the "cooler" dial up while the unit is running and see if it shuts off.If it does, your thermostat is fine and that's the temp you are gonna want to keep it at. I will admit that 2nd floor apartments are going to be warmer but i've lived in worse and my AC's always shut off when they were supposed to.

Don't you have control of the air??? I have never heard of such a thing. Can't you turn it off? That does not sound legal. I would call your city or village hall and ask.
