I have Windows xp and use internet explorer and yahoo as my home page. I need to clean out my favorites many folders. Is there any way to clean them out besides deleting each saved site one by one.

Windows XP stores the Internet Explorer Favorites in a directory such as...
C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Favorites
Navigate your Windows Explorer to that folder and delete whatever you want.
Saw this answer from another WinXP user. Tried it. It works.

Note: I went to Windows Explorer
click the + sign next to Documents and Settings to expand it
click the + sign next to your name
you will see the Favorites folder
click it to see the contents
from here you can select one, then Control+click another, and another, etc.
right-click and delete

You can view them in:

C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Favorites

You still have to delete the ones you no longer require though.
