Think of future generations. Would you want to learn what a giraffe is at school by watching a movie of extinct animals? No you would want to go on a field trip and actually see the animal. We can also learn many things from the wild life and animals. Such as our ancestors. Plus, nature is so beautiful and they never did anything to destory our world. Why should we destroy theirs. They also help keep the world balanced and a better place.

The answers above all have correct information, just add to them that the wild places provide diversity of life forms, production of medicinal plants (where many so called wonder drugs come from), carbon dioxide recycling, oxygen production, new species, and more. The fact that we enjoy the outdoors in the wild is a bonus.

For future generations to see what the world is like. One can only learn so much from Discovery Channel. It's much different to see things close up, in real life, interacting with them.
Not to mention that humanity has little knowledge of ecosystems and knows not what changes in one area will cause in other areas around the world. Migration ponds, for instance.

Would you rather see the whole world paved over? We need wild places to to escape from the concrete jungles lol. We need to keep in touch with the wonder and beauty of nature. Without it, we would be navel-gazing.
We need forests to take up carbon and release oxygen, to provide herbs and barks for medicines, to appreciate the fullness of life.
