My friend had a baby two weeks ago and is going through the baby blues. I would like to put a basket together of things for her. I just have no idea what to put in it. It can be "mommy things," just not "baby things" because i want to make her feel special since you know all the attention is on the baby right now.

Target is reat for this! Go to the make up isle and they have baskets and Supplies to make your own Gift Basket. Things like nail polishes, pedicure stones, massage oils, little body sprays and so on. Maybe get her a good book to read during "Mommy time." I love this isle because it make the gift more personal, instead of it looking like you just pulled something off the shelf. If you want to add something for baby, keep it small and simple like a onesie, or some cute binkies. So she feels like you did it more for her instead of just for the baby.

Also if she has the baby blues you can do other things with her to make her feel better, like taking walks with her and baby, or coming over with lunch for her. She probably just feels lonely, and helpless, like she is stuck in the house and can't get out. Every Mommy gets that sometimes. (And if they say they don't... they're a liar. Good Mommy's love thier babies, but everyone need me time.) The best thing you can do is spend time with her.

Good Luck!

Some other gifts I received were a digital camera and help around the house
A friend came over every other day for two weeks for an hour or more and did dishes or laundry or vacuumed & I took a shower & just enjoyed her help & company
Oh I almost forgot She brought us supper a few times in the 2 weeks following that
hope these ideas give you some help!

Things that will make her feel good about herself. After having a baby we tend to forget about ourselves and focus all our attention on others. I'd include things like her favorite lotion, aromatherapy candles, bath products, maybe even include some home made coupons for her like:
2 hour Mommy break
Home cooked meal---
whatever you can think of that you can help her with. Some other things you might include are some snacks for those times she can't quite find time to grab a bite, and maybe a nice journal so she record all her new memories, and thoughts of being a Mommy.

If you really want to do something for her blues then offer to sit with her new baby while she take a nice long bath. Or maybe she would enjoy some shopping. Get something for the baby but focus mostly on her needs. Make a coupon book full is chores or babysitting, just about any thing you can think of to help her out. Just some ideas. Good Luck

Some good things to put in the care package would be:

-Scented candles
-Bubble bath mix
- A coupon for x amount of babysitting services or a home cooked meal.
- Chocolate
- Her favorite movie on DVD (if she hasn't seen it)
- Baby lotion
- Diapers
- Wipes.

I know that after I had my son, I would have liked the first couple of items and the last items were a definite help.

Its nice that you are trying to do this for her!

A gift basket of toiletries and things to pamper herself would be great: Shower gel, good smelling body lotion, a loofah (or the synthetic net "scrunchy" looking thing) for bathing, a pumice stone, lipgloss, a little summer nightie or cotton top and shorts--whatever your budget will allow. And don't forget some dark chocolate (there are dark-chocolate candy kisses wrapped in purple, now, and they have health-giving anti-oxidants, reportedly). She'll feel pampered and special, I think.

Muffin Basket.

One of my friends brought me a basket of muffins. I think she just picked them up at Costco but it was great. When I was too tired to make myself something to eat, I would grab a muffin.

For my friend who recently had a baby, I went to Supper Suppers and made her 2 meals which I split in half because it was really to feed her and her husband. So I ended up with 4 meals that she could put in the freezer. When she need a quick meal, all she had to do was grab it and toss them in the oven for 30 to 45 min.
