I know this wasn't an option, but, as far as console wars go, Sega Dreamcast was so far ahead of the game when it came out people didn't know what to do with it. If it had come out when the big gray box (PSX) did, it would have succeeded.
As for these days, I'd have to say that Xbox 360 has the rule of the road, the Wii is a ways behind only because learning the control of the Wiimote is a bit tricky for some people, like myself. PS3 will eventually catch up to the others when some of the games coming out hit finally hit stores. The big advantage PS3 has right now is that it's got a built-in BluRay player.
Where as the 360 has an add on that costs roughly $120 to $150, but, it's still a HDDVD player. As far as I know, the Wii doesn't have anything like that yet.
The Nintendo Wii is by far the cheapest right now sitting at $250 a pop. Where as the PS3 is about $600 a pop and the 360 ranges from $300 to $480 a pop.
The 360 though, gives you the most bang for the buck right now because of the massive selections of titles it has out and with a few upgrades it can be just about fully backward compatible. Yes, the Wii does play GameCube games, and thats all fine and dandy, but I haven't seen anyone play any 64 games or any of the other older games. And the PS3 is fully backward compatible right out of the box, which is great, but, what about all the new games... Where are they?
Hopefully, this helps you out a little bit.

Probably the Wii
The reason I say that is because it is appealing to many more people. I know this because the Wii is still hard to find, but I could get a PS3 today if I wanted to. And even though the PS3 is much better performance-wise, the Wii is more fun to play.
The 360 is oddly enough being considered outdated when compared to the newer systems. And although it was out first, that just means the rush for buying it died down. It is not going to be a big seller now.

It's too early to say so far. I'm more intrigued by the 360 than I was by the original Xbox (Blue Dragon is coming out soon!), but even with Mistwalker, Microsoft still has to content with some of the PS3's great games. Final Fantasy XIII and Kingdom Hearts 3 are going to move a lot of Sony systems.
The Wii is doing surprisingly well, but when will they start getting more 3rd party support? I'm worried about its long-term success.

well the thing is that it just started but Xbox 360 is first, Wii is catching up so fast to it, and ps3 is in the dust beacuse of no good games for it yet.........In one year you'll have your awnser because ps3 has some plans underway which can reverse this whole thing......xbox 360 learnes that you can't depend on one awesome game(Halo and halo 2 for xbox) so that's why there are alot of good games coming out and the wii has the third party behind it(Finnaly!!)now you won't just see like 20 diffrent mario titles! wii has learnes it's lesson. The ps3 is by far expensive and wii the cheapest(bravo nintendo!) anyways with all this in mind it's going to heat up into this fall and next year so we'll see

I believe that the 360 is just ahead of the PS3 and with the Wii last but not far behind.

Xbox360 is winning - its been out longer and it has more games. Wii is cheap but i find the nifty controllers just a gimmick that is too hard on real fps games, oh and PS3 well its just too expensive when you can get most games it has on the 360 anyway and who really gives a crap about the blu ray player - the movies arent in circulation well enough yet.

Right now the 360 because of the before mentioned headstart. Wii is second, and sadly PS3 and Sony in general, are crashing.

There is no console war because if a console loses, every true player would be sad about it.
The Wii is the one selling best though
Then comes the Xbox360 (it sold more consoles but began first)
And the ps3, the last, and the one which is selling the worst
