I'm a new fish person and I don't want to choose the wrong fish. Has anyone heard of http://www.fishchannel.com
is that a good resource?

I've used the site a few times. I also like this one: http://www.elmersaquarium.com/h701elmers_freshwater_handbook.htm for how it groups fish by size, temperment, and activity level into compatible "communities". Just be aware that some times they'll say "small angelfish" or "large barbs" that you need to either buy a larger tank at some future date (for the first) or you'll have to buy adult fish (which tend not to be those found at your local store, but three times as expensive - at least).

First you need to choose a type of fish you really like. Then, you can research what would go best with them, based on behaviour and needs. There are thousands of species to choose from so you'll probably want to put some thought and research into it yourself to get what YOU want.

You can choose for yourself and still not choose the wrong fish, buy doing research on what interests you before you buy it.

My best advice when it comes to web research is to never trust just one source. Browse around because there is a lot of bad information around, and often different, yet equally good, ways of doing things. Nothing beats a good book though, and never rely on a pet store employee for advice since all to often they just have no clue.

Never mind about considering a smaller tank - bigger tanks are actually easier and provide more suitable living space for any fish, no matter how small.

It looks like a good site to me
But just a general idea
Go into a petstore and see what kind of fish catches your eye and go from there.
you should definately put like a plecotosmus in your aquarium he keeps the gravel a little clean and also eats algues

if you go into a petstore like "petsmart" every tank has a tag on them with the fish description and if it is semiaggressive or aggressive

When you choose a fish, just check out the tags and talk to the people that work there, they usually can give you really good advice (the one I go to, the people really know what they are talking about)
Good luck

I have heard of www.FishChannel.com, they have a lot of really good articles on both saltwater and freshwater setups. You should be able to find lots of good advice there because all of their articles are written by the editors of Aquarium Fish International.

Yes - actually they have a tank mate tips section that addresses your specific question...I assume you mean 60 gallon tank. And here is the link - I hope you start with fresh - you NEED to start with fresh as a beginner - you may consider a smaller tank as well.
