I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/ On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps.

Do bears deposit land mines in the woods? returned whilst "Norton" meant Peter Norton himself, Norton grew to become into sturdy stuff. Now that "Norton" means "Symantec", this is replace into the main intrusive memory hog on contemporary systems. There are spyware courses and viruses that i might quite have than Norton. what's even worse approximately Norton is so which you may certainly PAY to get it, this is a travesty, pondering the reality that there are loose strategies that artwork greater effective, with much less overhead levied against processing and RAM, obtainable. I use Norton, and I've only had one problem, but that was easily sorted out. I like how everything is in the one programme, I saw a post on here about downloading the free online ones and you had to download all these things.

Plus, my laptop works at a very good speed. And I used to use Avast. I switched to Norton, and when I done the scan it came up with 134 different viruses! Avast did get some viruses but it only dealt with one everytime I switched my laptop on.

Im a computer tech contractor. Look into NOD32 by ESET. I did a test on my system where I didnt update for six months. I didnt catch a single virus!! and the system is top rated in the world. 96% success rate since 1998 (Norton is the next best choice at 92%) in VB100 virus tests. I heard from a couple of contacts that both Microsoft and Dell use it for their corporate offices and the prices are outstanding. $60 for two years, $40 for one.

The biggest difference is that Norton will SUCK every last bit of extra juice out of your system, as where NOD32, you will barely know its even using resources.

I am a board certifed clinical psychiatrist and have a moral and legal obligation to keep my pc 100% clean.

Here are program I use that will give you 100% protection. Ofcourse you must also have all your critical updates installed from Microsoft.

I use the free zone alarm firewall for many years. Excellent with free updates and all new versions free. Protects you from rouge incoming packets and keeping your private data from leaving your pc.

http://www.zonealarm.com Download their free home for personal use.

Antivirus program I use. You only pay a one time fee of $29.99. and you get all updates and all new versions for life.

Read the webpage and if you like what you read this is the antivirus of choce I have used for over ten years and never one virus.

By culture the Chinese are very secret just about everything and that includes their software.

This antivirus program out of Beijing, China that is also used by the Government of China.

This antivirus program does not have the Govt. permission to be rated with all other known antivirus programs.

What I can assure you is that you pay only a one time fee for life that will include all auto updates, and all new versions for life. The Chinese don't believe in having to pay an annual fee for updates or new versions.

I can tell you their technology is light years ahead of any other known antivirus software out there.

If you open a webpage and there is a hidden virus it will clean in realtime. Anything that you download and has even a trace code, it will kill the download and ask you to upload the trace code for investigation. In real time the upload will tell you if it is clean or not.

Will not allow you download, Real Player, because there is a hidden file that is a trojan keylogger. The file was uploaded and traced back to the United States Army, Intelligence Services out of London, England. (Removal of the file Real Player will reject the installation).

Read for yourself at their webpage. I have never had one virus in ten plus years. Plus it will catch any progam with it's dynamic defense system, for software that you download and it does not have a publisher or lic., included.

Twister Trojan Antivirus V7

Very low on resources with scanner running in background.

If you prefer not to pay and wish to have a free antivirus program download the free AOL Active Virus Shield, powered by Karpersky engine Russia.

someone already mentioned AVG free edition. you should be fine with that. if for some reason you don't like that either, try ClamWin.

ClamWin is free, open source, GNU General Public License software. That means it's legally free to use and it is in the public domain. It's made by a non-profit organization and other volunteers. Open source means that the computer code to make the program is public domain.

NOD32 if you are happy to pay... Free version of AVG if you want it for free.

If your router has an integral firewall you don't need one on your PC as windows firewall is good enough in that environment (unless you share your connection).

Spybot S&D is a good spyware tool for free (actually it's poor but it's free). I recommend Webroot's spysweeper.

You'll read and hear bad things about all of them, If you're having no problems at the moment I'd suggesting staying with what you know. I use Norton, and it hasn't let me down.
