Regarding a series the M's were playing:

"To tell the truth, I'm not excited to go to Cleveland, but we have to. If I ever saw myself saying I'm excited going to Cleveland, I'd punch myself in the face, because I'm lying"

Obviously, this upset a lot of fans. I'm not sure that Ichiro is taking a shot at the city - he may have meant it strictly in a baseball sense - but it certainly caused some commotion.

Ichiro was dreading going to play one of baseball's toughest teams. People got there panties in a twist because they thought he was blasting the city. The Mariner's are winning and Cleveland is winning and if Ichiro were David Wright or Barry Zito or someone no one would have thought twice about it.

Players have been badmouthing certain cities and teams since the game started all the way back to Ty Cobb. To even make an issue out of it beyond a means for Indians fans to boo Ichiro is nonsense. Jimmy Rollins badmouthed the Mets and New York during spring training.

He said that he was not happy to be there, and if he ever said he was happy to be in Cleveland, that he'd punch himself in the face because he'd be lying.

It was a cheap publicity stunt to get some attention.

His remarks where so out of the blue it didn't make any sense at all.
