I would die for family and friends but other people could die for:
family,
friends,
civil rights,
peace,
justice,
religion,
their country,
freedom,
finding cures for deadly diseases,
research (like marie curie died because of studying alot of radium)
greedy people would die for riches (money, jewels, fame, etc.),
the list could go on and on.

the only thing I would die for is my faith. If someone told me renounce Christ or die, I would die, because Christ gives eternal life and renouncing him would mean an eternity in Hell.
