I bought my daughter a blanket that is a piece of cotton and a piece of flannel sewed together with ric-rac in the middle. How would I go about making a blanket like this? Oh and any suggestions of something similiar for a boy, but more masculine than ric-rac? Help. I really want to learn to sew these.

Lay the cotton fabric face up. Pin the rickrack around the edges, with the outer edges even. Stitch this down. Remember the outer edges are even, and most of the rickrack is towards the center of the blanket. Now lay the flannel piece face down on the rickrack/Cotton 'sandwich'. Stitch around the blanket again leaving about 8-10 inches free to enable you to reach through to turn the blanket right side out. Stitch this opening closed, once the blanket has been turned. There are all kinds of trims offered at your local fabric store that would be appropriate for a boy. Check them out, and find one you like.
