I am painting wine glasses using vinyl to mask the wording. I'm using white Pebeo porcelaine paint. But when I take the vinyl off to reveal the wording, it peels the paint off with it.

-Is there something I can do to stop this happening?
-Would a surface prep help?
-Is there a better way of doing this?

(There are too many letters to paint freestyle)

You always must use a conditioner on the glass before you paint it. You can get the conditioner at the craft store. If this won't work for you, try etching cream. Mask off the top edge of the glass with the contact paper.Measure down about 2'' and mask off again. In the empty middle, use peel and stick on lettering to spell out what you want. This lettering, in several sizes, is offered at any office supply store. Make sure the class is clean, and everything is secured down. Now apply the etching cream to the entire open band on the glass. After 5 minutes, rinse it off, remove the masking and the lettering. There will be an etched band going around the glass, with the lettering showing as clear glass.

go to michaels and get real etching cream acid you can even buy letters there to use on the glass, then you put the mask on and apply the acid as it says, time it and remove the acid as directed, there you are, real etched words. the other stuff just doesnt seem to stick to the glass well enough. you can also use gold paint pens but it wont last forever and the etched letters will. I did acid etching in 4 H when i was 12, the stuff is called Armor etch.

your paint is adhering to the vinyl. try spraying it with Pam or smoothing a coat of petroleum jelly on the stencil.
