Definitely! I think that would be so cute and it'd definitely mean a lot to him- he's probably thrilled to be a new father and your acknowledgment of it would make him even happier :)
As for what you should get him, maybe this father's day a note would be enough. He's a new father and since you've just had a baby, I'm sure he would appreciate a note from you describing what he means to you and the new baby.

We celebrate father's day even though I didn't birth the kids. (They're my step kids and adult) All my husband wants is a card and his favorite meal...lobster and veal. Not a problem for me! I already have all the food. I get to spend all Sunday cooking which is fun. And he'll call his kids up. So yes, start celebrating now!
