On the Cosby show Dr Huxtable had a office down below his living room in his house. It had a private entrance. They also had a basement which "repelled the children" according to Cliff in one episode.

I was going to say the basement, as well. The window in his office seemed like it was near the ceiling, so I thought it was his basement.

Hell of a good question...I always thought it was the basement too...but he had a front door I think, that patients could come and go from. Weird. Hope someone knows for certain, because I've always been curious.

He had an another room off to the side of the house where is patients could come and go. You could also go through the house if you wanted to. So cliff had is office on the other side of the house. It was an extra room where he had his office build. Plus - somewhere down the line they had a other extra room built for Clare too.

It was in the basement of his home. If you're in the living room and walked toward the stairway to go upstairs, you'd turn right and that led to his office - downstairs.

i think that there was a front basement, or just a lower level, that was made into the office. there was a door in from the street, which is common in new york houses.
