I need to get a gift for a voracious reader who loves anything to do with World War Two. Any suggestions?

Voracious readers are tough, because they've often already read what you might give them. "Flags of our Fathers" was good, and the "Greatest Generation" was excellent. If you're looking for something maybe a little more obscure that he might have missed, Try Leo Marks' "The Codemakers War."

Good luck.

James Mitchner wrote some good ones. Then there is PT-109 , it was the story of John F Kennedy's survival after his craft was damaged and sank in or near the Marianna's. To Hell and Back,,sensors may cut that,. The Audie Murphy story. Bridge over the River Kwai Diary of Anne Frank Alot of these can be found on Gutenberg or the Internet Library.

I have a small collection, none are too focused on the war itself, but on some aspects or another.

The Chosen, by Chaim Potok
This is probably furthest from the war, set in New York, but it does make references, as the main character tracks the progress.

In the Beginning, by Chaim Potok
Also set in New York, one of the focuses is the character's father trying to get his relatives and other friends over from Europe, but WWII moves in and it's too late.

The Night, by Elie Wiesel
Autobiography based on his experience before, during, and a little after he was in Auschwitz

The Pianist, by Wladyslaw Szpilman
Autobiography based on his escape from the death trains and staying alive in occupied Warsaw

A Thread of Grace, by Mary Doria Russell
I read this a while back and haven't refreshed on it lately, but I remember a little bit, though don't quote me. It's set in Italy and there is a resistance movement which is the baseline, I believe.

Rena's Promise, by Rena Konreich Gelissen
Autobiography starting in the early years of the war. Rena signs up to work in a camp, not knowing about it. Her sister follows after her and they meet up; Rena promises to keep her sister alive.

Hitler's Pope(cant remember the author, but it caused a lot of hoopla in the Vatican)./ Himmler by Padfield(over 1,000 pages but very good). Any of Gritta Serny's books she did one on Albert Speer and another on the commandant of Treblinka.

Well, I would really suggest "Soldier X" and "Under A War Torn Sky." They were excelent books and you would really enjoy reading these. I know I did.

Soldier X was written by Don Wulffson

Under A War Torn Sky was written by L.M. Elliot

This is somewhat like asking what is a good mystery or romance novel; what is one good book on Regan's presidency.

That said, I'd try Winston Churchill's series.
