Yes, there are casting calls in Houston, as in any city,
you need an agent. When I lived in Houston, my agents were The Pastorini-Bosby Talent Agency. Call Directory Assistance for the Telephone Number. I booked a movie through the agency.
Texas is a Right-to-Work state (yipee!) that means you can call any agent in the state of Texas and ask for an audition appointment. You do NOT have to be a member of any unions in Texas, to work, due to the "Right-to-Work! "status of Texas.
If and when, you decide to join the professional unions, SAG/AFTRA, pay a small fee (cheaper than joining in other states) and you're in the unions! You will save a lot of money by joining the unions if you're in Texas.

Are you asking "how can I become a famous actress?" or just "how can I become an actress?" If you're asking the famous actress question, you need to hang out in clubs where famous people hang. I think Owen Wilson hangs out at Deep Elum in Dallas sometimes. The next thing you want to do, and since you're female it would be easy, strike up a sexy convo with someone who is famous..You can do this on Myspace also..Don't let them know you're interested in acting, or trying to get into the industry..Just be their friend, but be their sexy friend. They will ask you to come and hang with them at their house eventually..and then BOOM! You're in! Once you get in, someone will eventually make the suggestion that you should try out for a role..Let them do all the work. .They will set you up with a meeting with their agent, and the rest is up to you. Not really too sure what's in Texax, but you might want to check out www.backstage.com and www.showbusiness.com to see if they have any info about castings and auditions in your area. In addition, you'll want to have a look at www.actorsaccess.com and maybe www.exploretalent.com. See what you come up with.
Backstage newspaper comes out weekly, and it is possible that they might have auditions listed in Texas, but if so, they will be few and far between.
