I've been scoping out YA on the politics front and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of questioning going on.
Usually, somebody with some pretty strong polical beliefs asks a leading question, such as "why do [conservatives/liberals] have to [do something that the asker feels is completely stupid]?"
Often times the "best answer" to these types and other political questions are not ones that challenge the asker's beliefs or get the asker to consider the other side in a new light but are rather along the lines of "I'm totally with you, bro."
It is mathematically impossible to be right, all the time. So sometimes liberals are wrong and sometimes conservatives are wrong, yes? Both camps have some good values and some not so great values, yes?
Does anybody feel that it's pretty insane the way conservatives just go after liberals, or vice versa, as if they are one big group and dismiss anything this other camp offers?
What does this mean to our democracy?

To bbbriggs04: What about talk radio shock jocks? It aint just here. If you think this stuff doesn't make a difference check into what started the genocide in Rwanda. I don't predict that will happen here, but people are capable of insanity if incited, long enough.

It means our two party system is firmly in the politicians control. We vote them in, they do what they want. Present example, some on both sides including our President wants to give millions of illegals whose first act was to break our rule of law and give them a free pass with a lot of mumbo jumbo stipulations that won't be fulfilled and these millions of illegals will become a permanent drain on many of our resources such as schools and hospitals payed for by the taxpayers. I refuse to be live that is what the majority of Americans want yet our government is in this process. Why do we not join together to stop them? I don't think asking about bedwetting is really an important political issue, yet I see it here all the time. We are not a country of communists but you would think so. For once and for the good of all write your congressman on this issue. Be a true patriotic American and tell them how you feel.

This is part of low propaganda from both sides... They play it low to force reactions, and when you force reaction, you increase political awareness, and when so happen, those bashing peoples will help bring the vote out...
Of course, since elections are a while away, it doesn't mean that brains cannot warmup a little (if you call this using a brain...). As for myself, I totally agree with you, there is good and bad in each political positions, but some are more eager to live with some bad effects, than others are.
Me, I always try not to vote at all, as our political system don't worth my consideration.
I just find it plain stupid that we must vote for peoples that just bragg and talk in thin air, and have just no backup or credibility whatsoever. Me, when I need to rent a house, I need to backup my claim, and need guarrantors, but those guys we must vote for, will spend billions and we give them a blank check!!! This is chocking me too much, I can't just stand it anymore...

Study the history of our nation's politics, and you will see that the two-party political bashing is as old as the US is.
It is only since the 1960's, however, that our nation has been so polarized on the issue of "what, if any, is the appropriate social morality for the US?" This brings religion into the mix, and people hold their religious beliefs very close to their identities.

I agree with you. Everyone is entitled to their opinon. This is a Democracy, no? Right and wrong exists with both liberals and conservatives. Sometimes people take the side of the party rather than thinking about the whole issue and deciding for themselves what's right and wrong.

consider yourself reported Mr! that was the most viscous diatribe I have ever saw on this forum, JUST KIDDING;). seriously though, did your father ever tell you there are just some things you don't talk about with friends, if you want them to stay your friends? those things would mainly be politics and religion. people have strong feelings about both and naturally we will all look for partners to agree with our positions, so we have, Libs and Cons, Dems and Repubs and a few Libertarians and Centrists. We are basically anonymous so we say what we feel without much regard for our counterparts. We are all right and we are all wrong and we all have opinions so conflicts are inevitable. thanks for stopping by, if you want to stay, butch up and speak your mind or be trampled under foot.

Yours is actually one of the more thought-provoking questions. You are correct: Yahoo Answers is a sounding board for those wishing to bash the other side. Rarely do you see productive, engaging comments. It's a plethora of cheap shots, sarcasm and really dumb remarks. As a longtime participant, it really frustrates me when I ask a valid question backed by a credible commentary and all it yields are thoughtless insults. I think my days on YA are numbered.

This might be hard to believe, it used to be worse.
No lie, the bashing & name calling was out of control,
but it seems like Yahoo is trying to clean it up.
I don't think it's right to bash another American for their
beliefs, dividing us just takes away from our strength.
But, some people are here just to get rise out of
other people - ignore these people, they're not worth it.

It has worked in manipulating people toward voting one way or another in the last few elections. I think the time for that kind of propaganda has pretty well run its course.
Psychologically, the more one hears certain phrases the more they believe that it must be true. I, for one, am looking forward to talking issues instead of throwing mud.

Right now it means very little to our democracy.
Its easy for a troll to hide behind their computer and spout inflammitory cr@p all day.
However, few if any would be willing to back up their statements in public.
Which is why you don't see this kind of rancor in public.
I wouldn't take anything posted on here seriously.
