mobile phone help, camera feature?

Question

i looking at a new phone, the phone i have is 2 megapixels which is perfect for me.. the one i looking at says it is 640x480 pixels.. im confused!
is the new phone as good?

im looking at a sharp gx29

need aphone around £50 will take vodaphone sim, and is triband

oh and i am actually looking for it for my parents... so simple and preferably a flip phone as i think a key lock would confuse them

dont get them the motorola razr,
the keypad layout is not very good .

if their eyesight aint too good it can
be a bugger to operate.

640 x 480 is only 307200 pixels, ie less than a third of a megapixel. Should be ok for snapshots and postcard size prints though. Of more importance is the compression used to store the picture. The uncompressed picture should take up about 1 meg of disk space, some phones compress this down to less than 30 k, with the quality loss you might expect. If the stored picture takes up 100 k or more you should be ok. Unfortunately mobile shops don't always understand these things, so you have to take a chance and try it.

I would say the new Nokia N95 which has 5-mega pixels and Carl Zeiss lense which are one of the finest camera lense makers in the word. I at the moment have a Sony Ericsson K800i and the camera on it is Excelent !! . . . . However after seeing the N95 camera being used i am rather ashamed with mine.

you really dont need a high resolution on a mobile phone camera in the first place, unless you plan to blow the pics up on the computer, the screen the size of a postage stamp wont show any difference.
